Norwich Lawn Bowling Club had lots to celebrate this week as July 1 fell on our regular Thursday night jitney. Our challenge, as issued by Judy Priddle, was to wear as much red and white Canadian paraphernalia as possible. Norm Foster was asked to be our impartial judge but there really wasn't much competition when Richard Learn and Donna McLellan arrived literally dressed from head to toe in Canadian flags and red and white apparel. The whole evening was a great display of national pride as passers-by would have observed. The players all wore red and white, there were flags everywhere and even Maple Leaf bunting adorned the clubhouse. Thanks for organizing the evening Judy and Mary Jane Kekes.

Amidst all the fun of dressing-up and celebrating Canada Day, we did not forget the very important matter of our jitney!

Richard Learn earned the high score of two wins with 29 points, Joy White was second with two wins and 16 points, and Norma Hussey was third with one win and 25 points. Thanks to the efforts of Judy and Mary Jane, everyone won a July 1 themed prize and we enjoyed a delicious strawberry social after the game.

Our other cause for celebration was participating in Norwich's bicentennial. On Saturday, club members volunteered to "man" the greens so that anyone passing by could try out our sport. Norwich Lawn Bowling Club has over a one hundred year history with the community and we thought it only proper that our club support and participate in this wonderful acknowledgement of our roots. It was a beautiful day and we hope everyone had a good time.
